My Students

Lap 1 of learning phonemic awareness, check! Now we're ready to switch gears and really focus on learning letters and their sounds! It's time to take our reading race cars and hit the road on another lap to the finish line of becoming a successful reader!

My students live in a high-poverty neighborhood in southeast Virginia where the majority of their education is learned only in the classroom.

They attend a school that has a high free or reduced lunch rate and sometimes the meals at school are the only food they will eat all day. My school is in a neighborhood where most of my students come from single-family homes. Providing a stable, trustworthy, caring, fun atmosphere for my students is all they ask and I do all I can to make those dreams come true.

My Project

This listen and learn letter sounds center is so child-friendly and easy to use! It comes with 8 Cd's that walk you through, step-by-step, 2 different activities for each letter to help a child identify a letter and its sound. Students will sit on a cozy carpet with their own headphones and work with a buddy to complete the activity sheets that reinforces a skill being taught with me in a small group. Students can also check their work by listening to the end of the cd before moving on to the next activity. This activity program is so engaging and my student's love the fact that they get their own board to do their work on. Being able to check their answers for instant feedback is also benefiticial so that they can go back and correct what they missed.

When you're in Kindergarten, you are building the foundation that the rest of your education will stand on.

This foundation has to be strong and firm in order to be built upon. Learning your letters and their sound is a huge part of this foundation and the listening center requested is a great tool to help build it. By donating to this project, you will help start the school year off right by being one of the most important tools in building many children's future's.
