This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach three general education classes 7th grade classes this year. Each student that enters my room is given many opportunities to learn and grow throughout the year. I strive to make my classroom a safe haven for my students and a home away from home!

Without funding the simplest of supplies slip through the cracks and adding classroom novels it no even an option.

The school district has suffered so many budget cuts, that I am left with no money to purchase the novels that I desire to share with my students.

My Project

I have been using DonorsChoose to help build my classroom libary for some time. I have a impressive collection and I love adding to it. I currently have 17 hardcover copies of the novel "Fever 1793". I need 8 more and the Novel Studies teacher's guide to have enough for our classroom book club.

We open our day with a 15-20 minutes of literature activities.

The students will respond to a Do Now to get them thinking or to respond to a prompt from the previous days reading. Then they will listen to a read aloud of the novel. Next they will discuss with classmates what they heard today. At the end of the novel my students will hand in the Novel Studies Packet and create a culminating project.
