This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There is a wide range of high school students in my health classes. Many of my students are from low-income households, come from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds, and many do not have a college graduate in the family.

Several of my students do not live in the school's immediate area and find themselves riding a bus to and from school for over an hour.

They face many difficult challenges due to geographical and economic factors. They are a dedicated group of students, both in and out of the school, with an average GPA of 3.0. Some also get up early to attend my early morning health class that begins at 7:00 a.m.

My Project

My students are learning about body systems, which includes drawing and labeling body systems and creating models of systems. I have my students create the body systems by using art materials. This project focuses on the reproductive system, especially the stages of development from conception to birth. After drawing each stage of development, each student will create a uterus and fetus by using the balloons, the balls, and other crafts. They will then simulate contractions using their models. This is a project I know my students will enjoy and will always keep, because they will have created a fun, functional project, in addition to learning about the stages of development.
