Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach language arts to students with a wide range of abilities. Almost half of my students are special needs students; some are non-readers even though they are in fifth grade. The rest of the students are at or above the fifth grade level in reading. One thing they have in common is that they are almost all living at the poverty level, and many come from homes that are unstable. My school is a safe haven for them which emphasizes the importance of learning. Since I teach to such a wide range of abilities, I believe it is important for the students to learn at their own pace in order to be successful. Once the students feel confident in their abilities, they will strive to build on their skills and seek further success in their learning experience.
My Project
I am requesting colored pencils and glue for my students because these items are essential to my students successfully completing their assignments. Too frequently they sit at their desks either not doing their work or distracting other students because they don't have their own supplies. In addition, students often run out of these supplies and their parents don't have the time or money to replenish them.
I want to ensure that my students have all of the supplies they need in order to become successful in school.
I don't want them to have to worry about not having everything they need!
