Always on the go...active students need active learning. My students are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in an urban, high-poverty, public, Montessori school. We are a classroom community that represents students from a variety of backgrounds where we have the opportunity to learn from each other every day.

Multiple students in my class have attention and focus challenges. Sitting in a chair all day...that doesn't work for these students. Movement and other strategies that fully engage their bodies help students to learn most effectively. Research has shown that fitness balls engage students physically and help increase focus on their learning.

That is why I hope to provide my students with "fitness ball chairs." These will help meet my students' physical needs by engaging more muscles in their body while they are sitting so they can have minds fully engaged in their learning. While all students would benefit from having fitness ball chairs in the classroom, my students with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and other specific learning needs would especially benefit from these chairs.

Your generosity will provide the opportunity for all students to learn-despite their learning style. You will allow them to be fully engaged- mind and muscles. You will help especially challenged students focus and increase their daily success in the classroom.
