I Can't Believe You Made This! Jewelry & Key Chains
Help me give my students all the supplies necessary to create gorgeous earrings, stretchy bracelets, and key chains out of high quality Sculpey polymer clay and glass, acrylic and clay beads!
The purpose of our School Library Makerspace is to engage students, improve their mood, and reduce their stress! Students need a place at school where they can take a deep breath, let down their guard, express themselves through art, and re-set themselves. Our Makerspace is that location for over 50 students per day. We provide excellent materials, requested by the students themselves, and a place to relax and create take-home crafts with friends throughout the day and during lunch and Advisory.
Crafting reduces anxiety and depression, and increases student engagement.
"Research has shown that crafting, regardless of the medium you use, can bolster mood, improve self-confidence, and reduce stress overall. In addition, crafting has also shown to improve mental agility, improves both gross and fine motor movements, and also decrease cognitive decline. Crafting additionally has been shown to be a natural antidepressant. Research studies have shown that those suffering from PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Insomnia and any level of chronic pain have achieved a reduction in symptoms by incorporating crafts into their lives." (spectrum health and human services: The Unexpected Benefits of Crafting). Every Monday I have students exclaim how much they missed the Makerspace over the weekend. I thought they were joking or exaggerating - they weren't. The Makerspace is a crucial part of our middle school.
This program is highly successful. We need to resupply our very popular, and currently decimated, jewelry making section. Students want high quality polymer clay with which to create their own unique beads, earrings, and charms. They beg for hypoallergenic earring wires, key chain making supplies, bracelet stretchy string, and beautiful beads. These supplies will provide this craft haven for our students to create at least 500 student projects. We would all be very grateful for your donation to make this happen.
