These headphones have made a real difference in how students access our social studies curriculum, particularly through the read aloud (text to speech) features in our TCI materials and assessments. Social studies requires students to navigate complex vocabulary and lengthy texts, which can be especially challenging for emerging multilingual learners and students experiencing dyslexia. With headphones, students can listen to the text while following along, allowing them to focus more of their attention on understanding the content rather than becoming overwhelmed by the reading demands. This scaffold allows them to access grade level standards and increase their language comprehension.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful changes has been the increased independence and confidence we see when students use these tools. Students who may have struggled to access a reading passage on their own can now use text-to-speech to work through the material at a pace that supports their learning. For emerging multilingual learners, hearing academic vocabulary and complete sentences provides an additional language model while they build their English proficiency. For students experiencing dyslexia, the audio support helps reduce the barrier of decoding so they can demonstrate what they know about history and social studies without their reading difficulties standing in the way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped make our classroom more accessible and equitable. The headphones are not simply a technology tool—they give students another pathway to rigorous grade-level learning. We are grateful that students can participate more independently in lessons and assessments, build confidence with challenging texts, and focus on the ideas they are learning rather than the barriers that might otherwise prevent them from accessing those ideas. Thank you for helping us ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1778553509638,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-to-support-access-to-text/10284308/","projectTitle":"Headphones to Support Access to Text","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fleming","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1992586"},{"teacherId":10051712,"projectId":10010643,"letterContent":"Your generous contribution to our project has had a profound impact on our classroom. Since receiving the new resources, my students have been more engaged and inspired than ever. One particularly memorable moment was when we introduced the new Coffee Cart business plan and started making coffee, tasting samples, practicing our roles and counting change back. The students were thrilled to have these coffee cart items to use. \r\n\r\n Many students who typically struggle with traditional methods of learning found new ways to connect with the material and practice their money math and communication skills, especially those who benefit from visual and hands-on approaches. It was truly heartwarming to see them work together, diving deep into market research and job skills, all thanks to the tools you provided.\r\n\r\n When the materials first arrived, the reaction from the students and staff was one of pure excitement and gratitude. They couldn't believe how lucky they were to have access to such delicious resources, and it truly made them feel valued as learners. They were eager to get started, and I saw an immediate shift in their confidence and enthusiasm. Moving forward, we are continuing to build on these new tools and skills in our ongoing cooking and budgeting units. None of this would have been possible without your support, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities you've helped create for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1769177993218,"projectUrl":"project/funding-for-fun-life-skills/10010643/","projectTitle":"Funding for Fun Life Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carroll","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10051712_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784318878724","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10051712"},{"teacherId":10314438,"projectId":9834636,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our P.E. class by donating jump ropes and juggling equipment through Donors Choose. From your generosity, our class has been able to start fun new units where we created jump rope routines from a menu of tricks and will learn how to juggle. These activities are exciting for students because they are different from the usual units we cover and students get to try learning a new skill or have enough equipment for all students to use.\r\n\r\nThe jump rope unit helps us build on coordination, endurance, and rhythm. As a project(see pictures), students practiced tricks, created a routine, rehearsed, and performed the routine for classmates. Students enjoy learning different tricks and working together to practice new skills. \r\n\r\nYour donation has made P.E. more inclusive for middle school students. I teach Independent Living Skills where my students learn and practice essential life skills like communication, money math, time management, job skills, and more! Creating this coffee cart business has been so exciting and rewarding for us as a class!\r\n\r\n This experience grew them as students, teenagers and future job seekers. The students were able to learn about job roles, being punctual verses late to a job, relevant vocabulary, and how to run a coffee cart business. They are practicing their communication, fine motor and money math skills each week. The students have raised $116 in two months time. We are hoping for a fun field trip at the end of the school or a pizza party with our profit. The students helped to put together the carts, stock the closet with supplies, hand-washing, dishwashing, cleaning, and making change. They are excited to learn more about marketing and advertising next semester. My middle school special education classrooms have been filled with your donations and have made an impact already on my students' learning. My students are 7th and 8th graders who spend time in modified classes due to the educational impact of their special education eligibilities. We aim for inclusion at our school and having these donations aids us teachers in that cause. \r\n\r\n Many of students have enjoyed having the manipulatives for math, materials to improve their fine motor skills, extra expo markers to draw on their own white boards, laminated worksheets to help with repetition of lessons and skills, and more! The materials purchased for my life skills students has assisted me and my students immensely. The Science kit is their favorite right now and we love doing hands on science experiments to better understand the concepts in the general education classroom. \r\n\r\n I am new to teaching life skill students and having these materials has helped me to better my practice and aid in my own skill development. Being able to have these ready for me to use in my classrooms makes my prep time simpler and more efficient. I feel that the assistants in my classroom are more effective in supporting the students with their academic work, their individual needs and their emotional health.
