My Project

Reading is an exciting journey that introduces readers to captivating characters and sparks imagination. Young learners are striving to acquire new skills and building reading abilities in many ways. One important step in this reading process is exploring decodable books.

Decodable books are texts which are carefully crafted with words and sentences that follow consistent phonetic patterns, working to accelerate learning for early readers.

These texts help striving readers to fluently decode words and phrases, so additional energy and attention can also be used to accelerate understanding of the story. Reading decodable texts provide a sense of accomplishment and pride as children read through the pages, promoting self-efficacy and strategic reading habits. With this project, children will bring these practiced books home to read to family members, which sparks even more confidence, self-efficacy and motivation to read more.

These take-home, book sets will directly involve families in this exciting process by reading decodable books together. Loved ones can provide additional encouragement, ask questions about the story, and celebrate their children's progress. This at-home support not only strengthens early literacy, academic skills with repeated successful readings, but also nurtures a love for reading, emotional health and strengthens the school-home connection.

Lastly, reading not only helps to provide positive ways to express feelings and understand the emotions of others, but it also fosters empathy. As young learners read about different characters and their experiences, they develop a greater understanding and appreciation for the diverse world around us.
