This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first time you painted with tempera paint? Have you ever learned how to make an abstract painting look 3-D by painting numerous layers of painted shapes? My fourth and fifth grade art students have not yet, but they would like to.
My fourth and fifth grade artists are very hands-on learners.
They are always very energetic to learn something new about art, and they love to connect what they are learning to their other subjects in school. Our school is a Title I school, so a large amount of our students are on free breakfast, lunch, and snack. I receive a limited amount of funds for the art studio, and I rely on donors to fund the supplies I need for class project.
My Project
This past summer I took a workshop on how to create the illusion of 3-D space in a 2-D painting by overlapping geometric shapes which were painted with with different textures, lines, and shapes. After completing this workshop I realized that this project would be a great way to teach my student the elements of design by actually creating this project. By the end of this project we will have covered line, shape, color, texture, size, direction, and value. I would like them to make a painting to take home and a large scale painting to hang at the school.
Please help fund our project so we don't have to learn about the elements of art straight out of a textbook.
This project will allow students to learn about elements of art and then apply it to their own art piece. It will be something they will remember for years to come, but we need your help to fund it.
