My Students

There is nothing more exhilarating than the look on a student's face when they have experienced academic success for the very first time!! Not only do their spirits soar in this moment, but they are motivated, from this time forward, to continue to experience this academic success!

We are an Alternative Educational Center, offering 4 programs designed to eliminate the negative images that our at-risk students have faced every day of their school career.

We've designed curriculum that is content standards-based and allows each learning style to excel using their unique talents. It's amazing to watch their success with this approach. Our student population consists of 125 kids: multi-racial in ethnicity, primarily bilingual (with English as their second language), & over 90% of this population qualifies for free/reduced lunch. They've been transferred to our school because they're credit deficient and are trying to earn credits at an accelerated rate. They're in need of a safe place to demonstrate that they can and will learn in a nurturing environment with respectful instructional strategies, culturally relevant curriculum & sufficient materials needed to complete the work: markers, pencils sharpies, glue sticks, & a notebook are critical for our projects.

My Project

Our students have many talents that are not accessed based on the traditional instructional strategies and curriculum. We have taken the content standards and created a curriculum that has a hip-hop backdrop which not only engages them completely, but honors their evolving interests, beliefs and values. These resources will allow us to continue to create poetry, spoken word and video productions for our project-based learning. Their writing, performances,& video productions allow them numerous opportunities for self-direction and self-expression in an environment that engages them. Due to the fiscal budget cuts, it's difficult to obtain the supplies and equipment necessary to develop & complete these projects. I have used my personal laptop in the classroom for the last 4 years and we are in critical need of an additional notebook for student use. We also need 1 set of markers, 1 set of Sharpies, 1 set of colored pencils, 50 glue sticks, 10 boxes of lead pencils to continue creating these projects. Your contribution will be significant to the continued success of our programs, you'll have the unique opportunity to help these students.

One of our primary goals is that all students experience academic success.

Our financial constraints make it very difficult to acknowledge & support the artistic abilities of these students, yet so many of them are truly talented. Your contribution of markers, pencils, sharpies, glue sticks & an HP notebook allows us to continue with this project-based learning. Your generosity helps to ensure that students - those that otherwise would dropout - will go on to obtain their high school diplomas.
