My students need the items listed because we are creating feminine hygiene packs for the young ladies at my school and in two surrounding schools in our neighborhood. These packs will have emergency products they need.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Social Studies class at Hoyne School is a place where students are challenged to grow every day. Students in my class learn the techniques and strategies for success in the classroom and beyond so that they are well prepared for life.
The students are 6th-8th graders in a school on the South Side of Chicago.
My students are exposed to so much negativity at their young ages, but their thirst for knowledge and excitement for their futures break through the barriers of their surroundings. They enjoy learning about other cultures, current events, and how they can change the world. They embrace, not hide, their backgrounds, and they are always looking for ways to make a difference.
My Project
These materials will make a difference because by providing basic necessities for the girls at our schools. Sometimes the adults in the building don't have what they need, or they may be embarrassed to ask. With these kits the girls will already be prepared for any emergency and they will have what they need to get back to work quickly. This will help their health and reduce bullying by preventing certain odors.
The materials requested are mints for the bad breath days, pads for emergency days, jolly ranchers to remind them to be "jolly", lotion for dry skin, lip balm for dry/chapped lips and chocolates for cravings.
We would love to give these girls confidence and independence!
