Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 65 students who are mostly English language learners. Some have been in the United States for only a few months and they are non-English speakers. This year, I even have a few students and their families living in motels. These students are good students and want to do well in school but they come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available.
Some students need basic hygiene supplies to stay clean so they can fit in among their peers while others need a snack to get through the day.
My students are growing up to be young ladies and gentlemen who require basic hygienic products because their bodies are changing. We need help in purchasing basic hygiene products such as deodorants, body wash, and sanitary pads. I want my students to enjoy their middle school years and not be ostracized because of poor hygiene.
We are a Title I performance improvement school, with 100% participation in the free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support the family. Help me supply my students with what they to get through school.
My Project
Attending middle school is hard enough without hygiene problems getting in the way of fitting in among their peers. I have seen some of my students coming to school without doing their laundry for a while, with body odor issues, and other issues because they lacked the basic essential materials provided from home. Some of the families lack the resources because of their financial situations while others live out of motels. I want to help provide my students with some of these basic supplies so they can focus more on learning and enjoy their time in middle school. Please help me help them!
