Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every day my students give me joy! This special bunch of kids face struggles due to a variety of disabilities and overcome obstacles every day. Several of the students have sensory issues that make it difficult to withstand toothbrushing, hand washing, or using the toilet. Not only are they students with special needs, they come from one of the lowest income areas of our town. Parents cannot always supply "extra" personal care items to clean and change after an accident.

Good hygiene practices need to be taught at an early age.

This is why I need your help. Training pants, bathing wipes, and a toothbrush station will give my students access to basic hygiene needs. Storybooks about how to care for themselves and why will help me teach them the importance of simple personal care.

Using timers for toothbrushing and hand washing will help them realize understand how long they need to wash and brush. The dental play kit can help students understand what happens at the dentist, and ease fears. This along with colorful, printed hygiene check off charts to earn rewards can develop healthy habits.
