it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all extraordinary kids! Most of these students reside in a poor, urban area that is grossly underfunded and, in some areas, lacking even the most basic of needs. Although many of them come from tough neighborhoods and lifestyles, they are strong, smart, and full of life. These are the scientists of tomorrow.
Each of these individuals has a mind for science and a contribution to make to the scientific world.
Their ingenuity is exceptional and their thirst for learning unquenchable. I learn more from them than they do from me! These kids are the kinds of kids that inspire innovation. They are the example that leaders should be following and the hope that will fuel the future.
My Project
I am creating learning corners in my classroom focused on different learning styles and techniques. We will have a sustainability corner that houses our hydroponic garden; a mental health corner with our meditation bench, comfortable and flexible seating, and personal hygiene items requested in this project, water, or snacks students in need may take for free; and a technology corner dedicated to different learning styles housing VR, 3D printing, Apple products, and more! Each of the requested bookshelves and cube bins will be used in a different corner to house items necessary to make each learning corner function.
These materials are a means by which to create a safer and healthier learning environment for my kids.
Supporting this project means supporting a dynamic classroom that addresses all learning styles, the mental and emotional well-being of kids, the social needs of students post-pandemic, and the need to captivate students long removed from the joys of classroom learning.
The hydroponics garden in my classroom helps my environmental science and chemistry students explore real-world applications of their learning. Students will need these organizational and storage materials to keep their grown produce fresh and safely out of the way of regular classroom activities. The mental health corner supports the emotional and mental well-being of kids in a needy district. My students deserve a space that is warm, inviting, free from clutter, and relaxing. They may only learn here for an hour a day, but that hour could be a reprieve for them and a haven where they can learn comfort and style. The technology corner will address all varieties of learners: tactile, auditory, visual, verbal, logical, social, and solitary learning will all benefit in different ways from the technology I will put here.
