Many of my students do not have money for basic supplies, but that doesn't stop them from trying to learn everything they can. Usually, I have them bring a box of Kleenex to school as part of their school supplies but they can't afford it this year.
I teach second grade at an older, urban school where many of my students are the children of deployed military personnel.
Although many of my students are deemed at-risk, they my wonderful second graders are trying very hard to learn English at the same time they are learning how to do math and read, but they struggle because they don't have support at home.
All of my students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, but we are not a Title I school and as a result, we lack the resources and opportunities of many other schools.
My Project
My 2nd graders will be back in school after the first of the year and frankly, I am panicking. I have been told that in order to keep them safe and to avoid cross contamination, I have to "isolate and contain" ALL their individual materials including tissues, and they will need individual water bottles.
I need the help of donors to get some water bottles, disposable cups, towels and tissues to keep my kids safe.
I am asking for some flip top, sports bottles that I can give my kids that they can keep at their desks. When students come into the room, they can fill their water bottles. If something happens and they take the bottles home and forget to return them, I plan to use the disposable cups. My students can no longer drink from the water fountain, they can fill a bottle (with help). I must wipe down and sanitize everything every day, so I am asking for the towels and we need individual boxes of tissues.
This is critical. Although our school has mandated these changes, it does not have the funds for these essential resources. Please consider donating and helping to keep my students safe while they are learning in school.
