What makes my students special is that they are seniors, young people who are getting ready to enter the college classroom or join the military and/or career force in the not so distant future. They are at an age where they are really starting to learn the lessons that will help them be successful adults who are pursuing future careers, but they still get excited when I get out colored pencils and tell them that we will be doing a creative project in class.
I teach advanced literature and co-teach the yearbook class that puts out a 272 page, full color yearbook documenting the accomplishments of our student body in academics, arts, and athletics.
Because of the coronavirus, I'm looking for new ways to use technology to interact in the hybrid classroom that will give my students in class and at home the ability to see and interact with one another better.
My Project
The remote learning classroom has made it so difficult for students to really interact with one another in a way that encourages them to develop the inter-personal skills that they will need to be successful as they progress on to colleges and/or careers next year. With only 25% of the students in the classroom on a hybrid day while 75% of the students are learning at home on Chromebooks, I'm hoping to use technology in a way that will encourage thoughtful, intelligent discussion and interaction between my students. At the same time, the restrictions of my current technology prevent me from being to work well with the students in my classroom while still being able to see and interact with the students at home. With the mobile technology cart and larger monitor, I'm hoping that students will feel like they are all active participants in my class.
