My students are survivors of Hurricane Harvey. A record 26 inches of rain fell in one day, flooding our community. Our school received 2 to 3 inches of water inside. Many of my students received 2 or more feet of water inside their homes. Some of them were rescued by boat in the middle of the night. Many of them are still unable to live in their homes. Some are living in temporary campers or in homes with stud walls and exposed plumbing/electrical.
The items I have requested will be used daily to improve instruction. I will be able to improve student comprehension through the ability to touch and manipulate their math facts. The literature and math games I have requested are also vital to our daily instruction. By utilizing small groups, I am able to provide my students with the one on one instruction and interventions they need to fully comprehend the subject matter. While I work with small groups of students the rest of the class will be practicing skills with math games, drilling their math facts, or reading to improve their fluency.
