This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class consists of thirty-one amazing students who are hungry to learn. We are a diverse group of fourth graders working hard in the Bronx, NY. Being a general education classroom, our needs are different and learning styles vary. Two of my children have autism, and several have emotional needs. In addition, I have students who are far below grade level and a few who are exceptional and seek more challenges. The one thing that we all have in common is a desire to learn and infectious curiosity.
My job is to keep everyone engaged and hungry to learn!
My Project
In fourth grade, some of the topics we learn about include the state of New York, Native Americans and the American Revolution. This year, our fourth grade team has combined science with literacy, and we will also be learning about animal defense mechanisms. The students will then learn to write research from their findings.
Many of my students have no access to technology at home and cannot get to a public library.
These students are at an unfair disadvantage when they cannot gather the resources necessary to complete their assignments. Chromebooks would give everyone an opportunity to extend our learning. They would allow us to work in collaborative groups to explore animals and their behaviors together in school. Students will be able to locate information on species and habitats, create tables and diagrams, and even travel to far away locations virtually to learn even more about animals.
Chromebooks would be an invaluable gift to our classroom, and the many ways we would benefit from them are endless!
