Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teaching amazing middle schoolers in a Title I school. I teach students with disabilities as a Special Education teacher and my passion is to support their reading growth to be as much as we can do in a year's time. Students with disabilities makeup 19% of our population, which is higher than the average 12-13% of school.

My Project

My students are hungry each day when they come to school and in afternoons and always are asking me and other staff for snacks or food of any kind.

My students want food and this food will help them learn and stay focused - Working in a Title I school, some students go home especially on weekends or breaks and do not know what food they are going home to if any.

This helps Maslow's Hierarchy of needs be taken care of so they can stay focused on their academics and learning.

My students who are struggling with math the most really need some basic math support of regrouping and base ten support to help with their addition and subtraction. I want to give them resources to help with these specific skills in their two math classes.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
