This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods that require support and resources for learning. One of the biggest challenges my students live with is the lack of knowing where their next meal will come from, not having basic items, needing support as a whole child, and needing resources at home and school. I work at a school with students who are eager to learn, and struggle to engage due to hunger or needs not being met.
Students should not worry about hunger and be engaged in their learning.
A large percentage of our students live in multi-family member homes, foster homes, other family members and friends' homes, and hotels/motels. These students and families may not have the financial freedom to provide basic supplies.
Having the ability to have snacks available for students throughout the school day can hep kids stay engaged and learn. Students will be able to access these snacks throughout the school day, due to being hungry from lack of food at home, and go back to their classroom to learn. We know students may not have all of the resources needed. Hunger is not a worry my students should focus on while at school trying to learn.
My Project
Many students in our building have limited access to food when going home. This causes the students to worry about food when they are sitting in the classroom. By providing my students with snacks throughout the school day, this will help all learners become better engaged and focus on their learning.
Students need access to food to curb their hunger and focus on their academics.
Students will be given the opportunity to have a snack throughout the school day to help them stay focused on learning, engaged in school, and not worry about being hungry while sitting in their seats.
