Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are growing up in a high-poverty area. Many students come into school without supplies, a clean uniform, or a positive spirit because of the wide variety of home situations. When we enter the classroom students support one another both academically and socially. My students are great leaders in the school, strong role models, and full of passion for learning.

My students inspire me to be the best I can be, they have taught me that although things are tough, we have to work together as a community to create change!

They are my inspiration.

My Project

Our school is in an urban community with 100% free and reduced-price lunch. Students often come into school starving because they didn't have food at home for dinner or had nothing before school. This limits their ability to focus and get the best out of them academically. By providing our classroom with snacks, students are able to come freely to take a snack when they are feeling hungry. Some of my students also need to take a snack home for when they get hungry at night when they are not with me. These snacks mean everything for the students and it makes a significant difference in our learning environment throughout the day.
