I teach third grade in a high poverty, urban community charter school. Day to day our students are faced with challenges at home, and become quickly frustrated at school when basic supplies are not always available (only what is provided from my own pocket). Students and parents are constantly stressed with the big state testing happening in third grade. I pride myself in teaching students that third grade is not all about testing, that we need to love what we are learning. My students are excited about learning and are finding the love in reading and math day after day. We take great pride in any materials in our classroom and are learning how to care for items, each other, and our community. Our classroom represents a community of leaders who are putting the joy back in learning.
