This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My choir students are hardworking, fun-seeking, and continually breaking barriers. I teach at a Title-1 school where 100% of students are on Free and Reduced Lunch assistance. My students are some of the most loyal kids I have ever met. This quality gives them a unique drive that I've never experienced with other students.

I set a high standard for my kids and they almost always meet the challenge.

In choir, my kids are striving for musical literacy, musicality, community, and creativity. Many of my kids see the choir room as a safe haven, and I am humbled and thankful for this.

My Project

Many of my Title-1 students have never been outside of Santa Fe, NM before. These students will have the opportunity to go to a camp for the first time. They will be hiking, making smores, making campfires, etc... Many students in my previous trips have said it was their most memorable trip in middle school!

There will also be a lot of music-making.

We will be preparing for our final concert during some of our time up there. We will have a highly experienced clinician that teaches these kids techniques and insights that I would not be able to. Help gives these middle school students a trip that they will never forget.
