Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into the classroom full of life and excited for learning. I work hard to deliver my best to my students and they always meet or exceed my expectations of them. They amaze me!
I teach at a diverse Title I school in South Phoenix where the majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of the students face hardships in both their personal lives and on campus, but despite the hardships, they always work hard and have a growth mindset for being successful in life.
My Project
This photo studio will enhance the way students relate to each other and bring out compassion through their creativity. As my students study the importance of narratives, I want them to take it to the next step by listening to the stories of others before designing a portrait for the story teller. The Sony alpha camera, the studio lightings, and ring lights will be used to create a collection of portraits to go along with the narratives written by students - ultimately putting together a book of ethnographic writing. This will help my students develop their writing skills, listening skills, and expression. One of the most important things is exploration in learning, and your generosity will help my students see the bigger picture in life.
My students want to listen to your stories, they are all ears for what you want to share and make your story picture perfect.
The best way to increase empathy is through listening to the voices of others, and your support in this project will further allow my students to make meaningful connections. My students have already an interest in ethnographic writing and this project will support that interest with somewhat of a selfie twist!!!
