Human Body Study for my Science Class

My students need a human miniature torso to provide a visual explanation and reference of the various body systems we will study this year.

I teach 7th grade science for an at risk middle school in North Carolina. Our school has many great students and faculty who are dedicated to providing our students the discipline, nurturing, and education they need and deserve.

I continue to be astonished and amazed at the home life and many obstacles my students face when they are not in school. Their home life is nothing I have experienced in my stable childhood. In my class, my students have fun exploring and studying the many fields of science. I believe that the material we study will be utilized through the remainder of their lives and constantly try to incorporate daily news articles that relate to our fields of study.

We spend one quarter studying body science, various body systems, and how they relate to each other. In addition, we study the impact and advantages of a healthy lifestyle and good nutrition. This human torso will be used on a daily basis to emphasize and visually show my students the various organs and organ systems. Many of my students need that visual correlation which will improve their retention of key terms and concepts.

Your support will insure that each year the students at my school will have a method of visually learning that will carry an impact in their lives for years to come. The human model will be displayed in the classroom year round. I have a small , plastic skeleton in the classroom that is a Halloween prop who we call 'Bones'. I hope to even nickname the torso so students can relate to through the year.
