My Students

I teach at a school in inner-city San Diego. Many of my students have social and economic challenges outside of school. Almost all of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch, but they lack knowledge about making healthy choices and living an active lifestyle. I am working to help them understand the importance of making healthier choices as well as the importance of movement. Despite having small facilities and a dirt field, we have been able to build a great program that is on the right track. The next step is getting students to take accountability for the choices they are making and to help them on their way to a healthy life.

We offer a competitive after-school sports program that participates in a league with local surrounding schools.

Our program is designed not only to teach our student-athletes about the sport they are participating in and provide them an outlet from their everyday lives but also to teach broader life lessons. Our athletics program is designed to provide our athletes with the structure and support necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Our after-school sports teams have made a big impact in our students' lives. These power racks will allow us to improve that experience for them. We will now be able to prepare our students for the next level both physically and mentally. Many of our athletes have the raw talent to compete but will now be able to become a complete athlete.

This equipment will now allow us to push our athletes in a safe environment.

Our students will be able to gain a competitive edge that will allow them to push their minds and bodies farther then they may have thought they could go. We are looking to make our athletes in volleyball, football, basketball, and soccer physically able to meet the demands of their respective sport while also teaching them how to be healthy for their life.
