Help me give my students tools that can be used for more hands-on, task-based math lessons. Number tiles for manipulating algebraic expressions, whiteboards and clipboards for movement activities, and lock box for cellphones.
My students are high schoolers (mainly 9th-11th grade) at Henley High School in Klamath Falls, OR. Math is often a difficult subject to motivate students in. Our students are bright and capable, but often need motivation and encouragement to follow through and see their full potential. This year I am looking forward to creating more authentic connections between math and my students' daily lives outside of the classroom, especially with personal finance topics.
These tools will help me create more engaging hands-on and task-based math lessons for my students.
For example, we would use the number tiles to help students manipulate algebraic expressions physically in front of them (especially for tactile learners); clipboards for motion-based lessons like station rotations; and whiteboards for math review activities. The lock box will be used for cell phone storage. All of these supplies will greatly help improve my students' engagement and productivity during math class. My goal is to make math attainable and relevant to my students. Thank you for your consideration!
