How Will We Have a Reading Rainbow if We Don't Have Books?
My students need literature that will spark their passion for reading. The selection includes books in Spanish, graphic novels, new young adult literature, and some popular favorites like Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th graders are a diverse bunch from English learners to above-grade level readers. They've got ambition to reach their goals, finish high school, compete in a 21st century workforce, and attend college and beyond.
We are an inner city school serving a Latinx population with 100% of our students qualifying for free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students fall below the poverty line and face challenging situations at home. They come to school with grit and do not let their hardships weigh them down.
My Project
My goal is to build a library of 1,000 books. My library supplements the school library, which has not received funding for books in two years.
The majority of 8th graders in Oklahoma City are at a 5th-grade reading level; if they don't have books that draw them to reading, that gap will grow wider.
Reading comprehension is one of the most important determinants of academic success.. A student's reading level can jump several years by making reading a part of their daily routine. Access to books to accommodate different reading levels and interests will help encourage 2+ years of reading growth this year for my students.
