My students work so hard every day, despite an amazing amount of odds stacked against them. They are creative innovative, and love to share their voices through writing and technology. Our current struggle is staying current with our students' technology needs. We are at the mercy of our school budget and cannot always afford what we need for students to be successful. We are located in an inner-city neighborhood where students could be exposed to drug activity, shootings, and countless other crimes. Despite these odds, our students come in ready to learn every day. We work hard to provide them with everything they need to be successful and our classroom budgets do not always allow for expenses like more current technology. I have been teaching here for 8 years and I absolutely adore our students. Our enrollment is over 600 students and I see around 150 students each day. My focuses are science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will use multiple programs to design and create student-led projects to enter in to local, state, world competitions. I am always so impressed by the innovation and creativity they show!
Have you ever wanted to train a robot? I teach STEM, with a focus on robotics. My students will design, build, and optimize VEX IQ robots for project-based learning experiences, as well as for local, state, and world competitions. These projects are 100% designed and student-led. The projects will encompass math, science, technology, and engineering. Students will write code, program their robots with these codes, master challenges set forth by VEX Robotics, and create their own challenges. We will need the VIQC Next Level Field Kit so we can practice for sanctioned competitons. This will allow students to test their rbots before they get to a competition. We will use the VEX Super Kit so that we can send more teams to competitions. We will use the VEX IQ Challenge Field Perimeter to host our own competitions, with nieghboring schools, to give our teams more practie before challenges. We will also use the Challenge Field Perimeter to better prepare for sanctioned competitions. These materials will increase student learning by giving them opportunities to master coding and programing activities. They will also be abel to explore engineering concepts and make the abstract concrete.
