My Students
My students come from a variety of households. This includes their ethnicity, economic status, and household makeup. The main demographic of our community however, is low income and primarily Hispanic. Many of the students are English language learners. Some were even born outside the country. Many have parents who migrate throughout the year, or work with the grow seasons of the area. I try to provide for them the best I can with pencils, erasers, glue and other supplies, even keeping snacks on hand for those who are hungry.
My Project
In our classroom we have access to a cart of Chromebooks. I love to incorporate technology in the classroom using a variety of resources, e.g. Nearpod, Quizlet, Quizizz, and EdPuzzle. We also have a school subscription to Achieve 3000. This is a great resource. It is especially helpful with our population who struggle in reading comprehension due to limited English proficiency. A benefit of Achieve is that it will read the article to you to assist with comprehension, but you need to have headphones. Many of students cannot afford this expense, and I only have a few sets to be shared among the students.
