My Students
My students live in an area of California that represent a true melting pot of diverse backgrounds and cultures. The school they attend is beyond maximum capacity and educational resources are stretched beyond breaking to provide all students access to a high level and quality education. My students have committed themselves to learning the challenging content of anatomy and physiology in the hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field in a region that finds itself short handed in having enough medical professionals to meet the demands of its community. They work hard each day to immerse themselves in the demanding and rigorous coursework that we challenge them with using outdated materials that are so 20th century.
My students are ready to engage themselves in curriculum using technology that can make them competitive in the 21 century.
They are ready to engage in hands on curriculum that will provide them with the skills and experience to be able to either enter a career in the medical fields upon graduation or be competitive at a 4 year institution. They have a dream and the goal of serving their community as a medical professional. Help me help them achieve these goals.
My Project
We currently have the basic Vernier lab quest materials needed to perform and collect experimental data using technology, but lack the specific equipment needed for labs in anatomy and physiology. One area we are deficient in have equipment for is the respiratory system. The vernier spirometers will allow students to investigate and analyze how the lungs of the respiratory system function, respiratory responses to physiologic challenges and the relationship between oxygen and aerobic metabolism.
The use of the vernier probeware spirometers will give the students access and experience to technology based learning.
They will be able to know how to use technology based equipment to collect real time data that they can analyze and draw conclusions. Students will also be able to extend their understanding of lung function and the respiratory system to being able to understand disorders and treatment of various lung conditions. These experiences will enrich their education and proved them with skills they can utilize after graduation as they pursue careers within the medical field.
