My Students

In my classroom students are introduced to bright colors and adventures. I teach Science and Social Studies to about 90 fifth graders, ranging in age from 10 - 12. Many of my students are from the surrounding community, but others travel near and far because they are military children. Some have seen different parts of the world, while others have only been outside of our little city to the next city over.

My students are outgoing and eager to learn, no matter which walk of life they have taken.

The children who are native, love to hear stories from those that move every 2 - 3 years, while the local children can provide wonderful insight about things to do in our small town.

I teach three classes, each in a 90 minute window. In that amount of time, my students love listening to videos, reading articles, playing games, and experimenting. They are passionate about what they are given and what they can do! Additionally, most of our curriculum requires us to use the technology. I just love seeing my students light up when given the opportunity to share their skills and fully being able to do so!

My Project

All of my students want the opportunity to learn in different ways. Our class has 3 desktop computers that are in scarce working condition, and when they do there is not a lot of space for students to work together while sitting at the computer. In class the tablets would offer students the ability to engage in an activity or assignment, both individually and alone, from any area of the room. This helps the students not only learn, but be able to complete the curriculum assigned, as well as have fun digitally. As my students continue to use the tablets, they will be engaging in an educational endeavor that will also be teaching them how to successfully prepare for their futures. We will be able to take these tablets with us as we travel around the school building, and be able to use them to further enhance our learning. The tablets would give my students many different opportunities to engage in learning. First and foremost, it will give them the ability to go wire free and travel while learning. Secondly, students would be given the opportunity to show that learning is more than just paper and pencil. There is a world of learning at just the touch of a finger tip. Lastly, students will be able to immediately access the material they are curious about, which will make learning fun and easy for them.

These tablets will show many of my students a way of life they are not currently exposed to, nor have been.

This way of digital learning will show my students that there are many different ways in life to learn about the things you are taught. No one way is always the best way for the many different ways a student can learn.
