How 5th Graders and Their Families Can Save the Earth
My project needs 3 digital cameras, a scanner/printer, and a digital camcorder.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Cary's classroom raised $1,292
This project is fully funded
As a 5th grade teacher at a charter school that focuses on Project-Based, real world learning. I have the privilege of teaching children old enough to understand social responsibility and young enough to try anything with curiosity and enthusiasm. I am part of a wonderful community of learners who are developing their skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, conflict resolution, and in linking their education to the real world.
This summer I attended a 90 hour technology teacher training program that offers us ongoing support for integrating technology in the classroom, however, we are lacking the technology resources to completing many of the projects for which I have ideas.
The specific project I am most excited about focuses on media literacy, persuasive writing, community service, and environmental/global concerns. After studying a variety of persuasion techniques (biased news, commercials, advertisements, oral communications) we will research environmental concerns. Students will choose an issue of concern to them (deforestation, global warming, water pollution, animal extinction ion, pollution) and create an action plan focused on the question: What can 5th graders and their families do to save the Earth?? Students will collaborate to design video commercials, podcasts, and magazine advertisements to educate others about environmental concerns and actions we can take. With the 3 digital cameras, scanner/printer, and digital video camera, students will be able to utilize media tricks and techniques to create multimedia that will encourage others to take action. The media equipment will turn the traditional persuasive essay into a motivating and engaging project for students, and one that results in products that can reach larger audiences.
You can help 5th graders teach other fifth graders how to conserve and preserve our precious environment. After all it only takes one drop to create a ripple in the water. Thank you in advance for your support.
