it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Heading into the new year, with new classes, we want to offer them as many opportunities as possible to learn from their environment around them. Many of our children are seeing life happen around them and have questions, but aren't sure who to ask or where to start the conversations. With social media presence being so prevalent, and information not always being accurate, we as teachers want to bring in current event topics to allow for more opportunities for students to ask questions and discuss topics of interest.
These Scholastic News Magazines offer our classes a chance to read, write, collaborate, debate, and discuss, hot topics in current events.
The articles are written in text that is comprehendible for our sixth graders with vocabulary they can grasp. The debates are topics of interest, that spark great collaboration, require them to assess point of view, and think about counterpoints. Scholastic News helps us in writing with finding evidence on nonfiction topics and so much more.
