My classroom is a GSRP Pre-K classroom of four year old boys and girls. Eight of my students are boys and ten are girls. Fifteen of my students are English Language Learners and their first language is Spanish. Seventeen of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state.
My students come from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods where access to good, nutritious foods is often difficult for many reasons including access, income, and education.
Every year my Associate teacher and I try to get in early one or two days a week to prepare a hot breakfast for our students. Which included eggs and pancakes. Last year our grill broke (it was donated by donorschoose.org too)
With these electric grills and other utilities will help me provide a hot breakfast for my students.
My students don’t have time to eat at home because of family situations. This includes them needing to leave home early to drop off their sibling and they also want to be on time for school. With this hot breakfast, it helps them stay active and ready to learn through out the day.
