Hopping, Crawling and Zig Zagging Down the Fitness Trail

Help me give my students a sensory fitness trail to use in our hallway. Many students and classrooms will benefit from these 10 vinyl exercise mats which provide fundamental movements for preschoolers.

My Students

My students are special education preschoolers with language and speech delays. This makes it difficult for them to communicate with others. They range in age from 2 1/2 -6. Some just have a speech delay, while others have cognitive impairments or autism. They face challenges each day, yet they come to school excited to be there.

Students at this age are curious about their surroundings and ready to try new things.

They love to jump, dance, sing, run and play like any other preschool age child.

My Project

Our special needs students learn in different ways. Some have physical impairments while others have cognitive or speech impairments. They like to move a lot and need many activities to keep them engaged.

Gross motor is a big part of their learning process.

Students need to move and stay busy but we want them to learn gross motor activities that will help them grow. This fitness trail was recommended by the school's Physical Therapist to ensure we are teaching students the correct way to do physical fitness.

Besides physical fitness, students will be listening to and following directions, waiting in a line, coordination, color recognition, and shape identification. They are endless ways to use these paths to meet the needs of each individual student.
