This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are true scholar-athletes. They love sports and love to be active. Many members of the team play in multiple sports throughout the year and many are honor roll members.
My students attend a charter school in the South Bronx that focuses on Health and Science education.
As a coach, I love seeing my students come to me on their breaks, checking on me, or asking for more workouts that they can do at home. They want to be the best athlete they can be. They want to make themselves better; I'm not sure I have seen scholar-athletes as well-rounded as this group. Growing up in a crowded city it can be hard to find quality sports programs and access to the space to play. I work harder for my students because they want it all.
My Project
Help us hit a home run this season! My girls are brand new to the sport of softball. They want to succeed and have fun winning games. I want to give them practice they need to grow both defensively and offensively. Softball requires them to learn to catch, field grounders, run bases and hit the ball with a bat.
By using the training equipment they can learn the fundamentals of how to bat.
The equipment will be used to teach my middle school girls the proper way to hold and swing a bat. They will improve their hand-eye coordination. They will build strength. Knowing how bat will make us offensively unstoppable and prepare them to play in high school.
