Hopeful For Headphones

Help me give my students 25 headphones for Chromebooks so online resources and electronic books can be used to enhance and enrich learning!

My Students

I am lucky to teach 802 students a week as the Media Coordinator, aka librarian, in a K-5 school. My students are technology enthusiasts arriving in the Media Center (library) daily with positive attitudes and an extreme willingness to learn. We have a diverse population, but in the past 3 years have seen an increase in our hispanic population. My request for a class set of headphones will help meet students' needs and make learning even more fun!

Every student has access to a chrome book in the Media Center but 0 headphones are available.

Listening to educational videos or e-books (books online) becomes noisy and distracting. With headphones, all students will be able to enjoy learning and reading distraction free, thus enhancing and optimizing comprehension.

My Project

Thousands of electronic books (ebooks) are available to all students via our school library online catalog and our local public library website. Having headphones for students will allow the non-readers to actually listen to the "read along" books, and English Language Learners to hear books in their own language. Interactive Science and Social Studies websites provide students with educational videos and text when they can access the sound feature with headphones. All 3-5 students engage in Digital Citizenship modules to receive digital citizenship certification for our school where headphones are necessary, so this would allow me to administer the lessons.

As intermediate grades (3-5) use Chromebooks daily to access resources to fulfill classroom and media center requirements, headphones will enable students to use these resources to their utmost.

Headphones will allow students to take advantage of educational video's commentary without disturbing others. I hope for headphones so that my auditory and visual learners become the 21st century learners they are capable of being.
