Thousands of electronic books (ebooks) are available to all students via our school library online catalog and our local public library website. Having headphones for students will allow the non-readers to actually listen to the "read along" books, and English Language Learners to hear books in their own language. Interactive Science and Social Studies websites provide students with educational videos and text when they can access the sound feature with headphones. All 3-5 students engage in Digital Citizenship modules to receive digital citizenship certification for our school where headphones are necessary, so this would allow me to administer the lessons. As intermediate grades (3-5) use Chromebooks daily to access resources to fulfill classroom and media center requirements, headphones will enable students to use these resources to their utmost. Headphones will allow students to take advantage of educational video's commentary without disturbing others. I hope for headphones so that my auditory and visual learners become the 21st century learners they are capable of being.
