Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school Hope Squad consists of 2 advisors and students (all of whom received the top nominations from their fellow students) as being trustworthy, approachable, and caring to speak with other students who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, self-harm thoughts, any other difficult situation, or just need someone to talk with. Oftentimes, peers are the first ones students talk to when they reach out about a bothersome matter. Hope Squad members are trained to be there for other students, keep things confidential, and link students to Hope Squad advisors for any safety concerns or for continued support in general.

Hope Squad students are truly saving lives!

Our Hope Squad students are committing their time and energy into their Hope Squad role, which can be difficult at times due to the nature of conversations they may have with their fellow peers. In addition to attending regular meetings, our Hope Squad promotes suicide prevention to the rest of the student body and the greater community through activities and events. Hope Squad normally will have tables at events such as our district back-to-school bash, Hope Day, every day of Hope Week, our school spring orientation, and so forth. Funding for our group is very limited so any and all supplies donated would be greatly appreciated. By having more supplies and a variety to choose from, our Hope Squad will have greater options to create more appealing projects, activities, and events for their peers and community. Our squad needs wristbands, markers, pencils, construction papers, coloring books, and sensory toys.
