This year is my 23rd year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of western North Carolina. My school is pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with around 550 students. Many of my students walk or bike to school. Living in a walkable community is so much fun for them!
My students attend an A+ Arts Integration school where the arts are seamlessly infused in teaching and learning.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student.
The average class size is approximately twenty students and we celebrate our multicultural uniqueness and learning diversity. This year, we added several classrooms and have seen a large increase in student enrollment. It makes perfect sense to me as we are the best school!
My Project
This is such a peculiar time in education. So much has been left unsaid. We won't have much of an opportunity to say goodbye. There is little closure. Our 5th graders will transition to middle school with little recognition. This is a rite of passage and something we look forward to each year.
This project will help us show our school spirit and recognize our 5th graders as they transition to middle school.
I am requesting copies of the book Hope for each of our 115 5th grade students. This book is about a girl named Hope Roberts. Every day is a good day to champion a cause, defend an underdog, and win some respect from the boys. Just ask Hope Roberts! This book focuses on Saving the World, Social Action, Personal Responsibility, Middle School, and Leadership. This book seems perfect to give to our students so they can find Hope in this situation and read over our Summer Break.
