I want to create a safe, engaging, and educational environment where the students in my classroom want to come and learn.
I teach children with special needs in grades K-5 on a Native American Indian Reservation.
One hundred percent of the student population receives free breakfast and lunch. They come to school eager to learn in spite of living in extreme poverty.
I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly provide positive experiences during the school day.
My Project
I had a previous project funded by some amazing people that gave my students a couple small group sets of Fly Guy books. The students LOVE them! They are eager to read because they feel successful at reading ‘REAL’ books. (We read from little 4 page paper curriculum decodables.) I was also able to purchase book study materials from teachers-pay-teachers that helps guide us through various reading standards such as making predictions, analyzing characters, character traits, story elements, cause and effect, chapter comprehension, and story vocabulary.
I love that my students are so eager to read and dive deeper into each story.
I purchased more Fly Guy books on eBay, but it’s difficult to get complete sets of the same book.
I’m asking for books to complete our sets so all the students in the small group are able to read from their own copy.
We are so grateful for all the support we have been given to enhance our learning experiences. Thank you so much!
