Do you remember your experiences in science class when your teacher did a demonstration of a science test and you only got to watch? We don't want to watch, we want to actively participate in science.
I have 155 eager young scientists ready to celebrate Earth Day in a big way this year.
We live in a rural community and it just so happens that within walking distance is a creek that calls out to us to come and take a closer look. We want to get wet and knee deep in testing our water and looking for macroinvertebrates that might give us some clues as to health of our waterway.
My Project
On "Earth Day" we would like to go outside for the day. We are calling it Environmental Day and we want to test our local water way. We want to look for signs of life and the general health of our creek. We want to wade in and look up close at this planet we call earth. We want to use our eyes and the tools you provide and see if we need to come to Mother Earth's side. Do we need to make changes and sound the alert or will all be just fine when we take our look? These are the questions we want to answer and with these tools we will make it happen.
We could sit within the walls of our classroom and we could learn about all that is happening, but we want to be part of a global event and do our part to be part of the solution.
With these materials we can be stewards of our world.
