I am a volunteer and coach by night to over 80 athletes k-4. Some of these athletes are just stepping on the court for the first time, while others are coming back to build on their skills.
These athletes are excited to get the season started!
By day I am a teacher of 18 kindergarten age students who love school!
The kids that enter my classroom each day are spunky, creative, and eager to learn! My classroom houses students with a wide-range of academic and social abilities, including students with special needs. Most of my students come from low to middle-income homes. I strive to give them the loving and supportive environment that they deserve while they are in my care so they can have the best chance of succeeding both academically and socially. They are amazing and make me strive to be the best educator that I can be.
My classroom is full of students from a variety of backgrounds and households but when we come together we are a family who grows and learns together.
My Project
This year we are continuing to build a K-4 basketball program for our girls and boys. A wonderful group of volunteers have stepped up to coach and help with practices and games. We currently have over 80 children that are going to participate in our youth basketball program. That is great news! Due to increase in numbers of participants, we are in need of more basketball to ensure that each athlete has one to practice with and this project will help fulfill that need.
"All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them." -Magic Johnson
To go along with the basketballs we will need a storage cart so the athletes can keep organized and can easily retrieve the balls. Our third and fourth grade players are in need of jerseys for their scrimmages. The mesh ball bag will be so we can bring basketballs to our away sporting events.
Basketball is setting a foundation to help these young athletes learn the fundamentals and be able to use those as they continue to practice throughout the year.
In addition to learning and building on skills, youth sports teaches children many life lessons like how to be a part of a team and how to respect others. It also helps them develop leadership skills, determination, resiliency, heart, and dedication.
Our goal is to introduce them to the sport, teach, inspire, encourage, and support them. All of our volunteers have a passion for the sport and we are excited to help young athletes!
