My students come from a variety of backgrounds that help to shape the way they learn. Some kids come to school realizing the importance of a good education. Other kids come to school having never finished a book in their lives and are just going through the motions.
Remedial readers need an extra layer of support for a variety of reasons beyond their control.
It is because of this extra layer needed that we strive to provide as many resources as we possibly can to ensure success. For some of our students, the only education they are getting is at school. There is little to no help at home and therefore it is up to us to provide the maximum amount of learning during the time these students are at school.
My Project
The Book Nook is a special place in my classroom where students are able to get cozy and read a good book. Some of my students have never finished a book in their life. They don't know what its like to "curl up with a good book" and get lost.
These book titles will appeal to a majority of my students and the flexible seating options will replace worn out bean bags and allow students to concentrate and be comfortable all at the same time.
Most importantly, however, they will help to replace my students' negative thoughts on reading with a new found love.
