Albert Einstein said "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has it's own reason for existing." My science classroom and Makerspace fosters the curiosity in my students. I encourage students to explore their interests and find their passion and hope to build lifelong learners.
Our school is a special place where innovation is encouraged.
Our goal as a school is to build students with skills and the ability to problem solve that will serve them for the rest of their lives. In my classroom, we explore our world using project-based learning and genius hour. Both of these activities allow students the freedom to explore their interests both inside and outside of the curriculum of our class. My classroom also serves as the school's Makerspace, the FabLab, which is utilized by all students both inside and outside of class time. The FabLab serves as an enrichment environment where students explore their interests. The 7th and 8th graders in our school are interested in exploring the world around them and learning new things. They are amazing in their ability to latch on to an idea and run with it.
My Project
The students will be using the materials that we are requesting while completing projects they create in Genius hour or the FabLab. The items will all be used in an environment where students have a choice in what their end products will be so the options for their uses are truly limited only by what the kids can come up with. The students love to do needle felting and are always looking for new techniques. The roving is a supply that we often run out of and always want to use. The books will give good instruction on needle felting as well as ideas for ways to use the supplies. Hopefully, skills learned using these materials can lead to the students beginning to discover a career goal, a new hobby, or even their passion!
The donation of these felting supplies and books will give the students more options during their genius hour and FabLab projects.
This donation does not just impact students in my classes, because the tools will potentially be utilized by all students in our school through their use of the FabLab and for Genius hour in their classes.
