I have been teaching science for over 15 years with this year being my first year teaching STEM/Robotics. A majority of my students are in grades 6, 7, and 8. These students come from an array of backgrounds, but what they do have in common is that they attend a college ready program. They recently competed for the first time in a competition at the university and walked away with 3rd place. They are excited about learning and are eager to learn all they can about coding, robotics, and engineering.
The drive of my students motivates me to find opportunities to learn all I can about each aspect of STEM.
The Pathfinders Institute in Bloomington, Indiana will give me the opportunity to learn Microsoft MakeCode, interact with like-minded individuals, and build lasting relationships with other educators. This gives me opportunities to collaborate with other educators from all areas of the U.S.A.
The Pathfinders Summer Institute will allow me to gain knowledge that I can share with my students. Robotics is an area of STEM that is new to me although other educators may find it familiar.
There are so many specialized careers that utilize robotics as a practice.
I want to learn all I can and expose my students to an area that will be beneficial in future career choices. This hands-on experience and simulation will create an excitement in my classroom like no other. This valuable training will allow students to compete against others students on levels beyond what they are already doing.
