Help me give my students the tools they need to collect and bottle honey from our school apiary. We started beekeeping as part of pur agriculture department.
I teach agriculture in a small rural agricultural community. Students are from a very low income community and have many struggles at home that we will never know about. School opens up doors for learning that will help them become successful adults and the agriculture classroom helps guide many of our students in career choices. My students strive to be better and do better and through education, we can help with with that. The students and community are loving, care about the educational opportunities, and support our agriculture department tremendously. My students are motivated, hard working, ambitious, and extremely interested in new lessons brought into our agriculture classroom, especially hands on lessons. Being a small community we are hit hard financially with needs and it is important that we keep education a #1 priority.
My Project
Once we get our beekeeping program going, students will need these items to be able to collect the honey that the honey bees will produce within our honey bee apiary. Our goal is to have the students pull the frames from the hives and collect the honey as a classroom lesson. In the end we will be able to send the students home with samples of the honey to share the educational process with those at home. Ultimately, this allows the students to be hands on from start to finish with honey bees and teach them how to collect the sweet honey the bees produce.
