Homelessness Should Not Deter High Performance in School
Help me give my students much-needed resources to function in school while minimizing the negative effects of homelessness. Students will explore emotions, learn skills to cope, and receive basic materials to enhance their learning experience.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an underprivileged neighborhood where most of my students come from low-income households and lack basic necessities. A lot of them have gone through traumatic events, which include: homelessness, emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse; domestic violence; family history of substance abuse or mental illness; divorce; abandonment; foster care placement, etc.
My school is located in an area in the Bronx, where a great number of families experience homelessness, and many of our students lack basic necessities due to their housing situation, which intensifies the traumas they've gone through.
Many of them come to school tired, hungry and some look disheveled. This interferes with their concentration, and their ability to learn and maintain meaningful relationships with peers.
My Project
The articles requested will help my students perform socially and academically even through the huddle of homelessness.
The books and poppets will be used to build social, emotional mechanisms to cope or help others cope with their current situation, as well as build interpersonal relationships despite their traumatic events in order to avoid withdrawal or feelings of inadequacy in the mist of their circumstances.
Other basic toiletries will be given to students so they do self-care in order to prevent poor hygiene due to lack of resources. School supplies, such as notebooks, book bags will be used to enhance their ability to perform in the classroom.
