This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are inquisitive, motivated and come to school each day with a smile! I teach first grade at a Title I IBES in Alexandria, VA. Almost all of my students will qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many face challenges outside of the school building. However, this does not stop my students from showing up each day with a smile and ready to grow their brains.
Access to high-quality learning materials and experiences allows my students to grow both personally and academically and set them up for success in the future.
My students deserve access to materials and experiences that will allow them to expand their vocabulary. They work hard everyday to reach their academic goals and show resilience in their daily lives. I'm so excited to see all of the growth my students make this school year!
My Project
This project is created with students at the center. With the current state of world, students are forced to be home for the foreseeable future. The hope in creating this project is to bring some joy and fun to my students and their families.
This project will enable students to color, which is skill we use a lot in our 2nd grade classroom, to both relax and immerse ourselves in creativity.
The book, "Wonder" will encourage students to hone in their optimistic view of life and celebrate all of the things they currently have. There are a lot of things my students can be grateful for at this time.
The terrarium will give my students the opportunity to engage in our life science unit at home. Students will be able to build their own ecosystem and hopefully bring them back to school when we are allowed to return.
